Connected Vehicle Technology promises a great revolution in the modern transportation systems. By combining wireless communication technologies and the potential of information technology, an intelligent vehicle is embodied that can serve as a powerful assistant for the driver in avoiding hazardous situations and offering him an eco-friendly driving style. This paper investigates some of the most important research and development activities in the field of connected vehicle technologies around the world. After a brief review of the current research and development efforts in some of the world countries, the most important programs and pilot projects in those countries are investigated briefly. At the end some concluding remarks are extracted from the overall discussion.
